Tutoring is available in ALL major subject areas of math!! This includes geometry & trigonometry, finite math, AP Calculus, college calculus 1, 2, and 3, business school math, and introductory courses in linear algebra, differential equations, and abstract algebra. Statistics tutoring is available using TI calculators, Excel, or old-fashioned pencil formulas. All subjects of the SAT, ACT, GRE, and GMAT are covered, as well as high school competitions such as MathCounts and the AMC 10 / 12.

Your math tutor, Scot, went deep into the math-major curriculum in high school — three semesters of calculus, one semester each of differential equations and linear algebra, analytic geometry, and mathematical logic. He won numerous math competitions in grades 7 – 12, including 2nd place in the California Math Counts speed competition, 1st place in the Chadron, NE multi-state “Advanced Math” competition, and two trips to the International (now Intel) Science and Engineering Fair.

Scot was then an Applied Math major at Caltech — the most obscure of the nation’s Top-10 universities, and the seldom-mentioned-by-name institution behind the TV shows “The Big Bang Theory” and “Numbers,” the movie “Real Genius,” and the play “Proof.” At Caltech, he was one of only two students in his freshman class to test out of the 1st and 2nd year math requirements. He studied abstract algebra, complex analysis, differential equations, computation, and mathematical physics. His masters degree at UCSD involved the use of a computer to solve advanced differential equations related to ocean waves.

In 1990, Scot began his teaching career with an SAT math class at Brentwood High School in LA. He resumed teaching math in 1996, and for the next two decades served as an adjunct instructor at too many community colleges to count. His college teaching career involved numerous semesters of the core lower-division college courses: Arithmetic, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I – III, Statistics, Finite Math, Pre-Calculus, and a smattering of other courses such as Consumer Math and Math for Teachers.

Scot’s tutoring career also began with math, around 1999. He has now worked with countless high school and college students in all of the subjects mentioned above.

Scot earned perfect scores of 800 on SAT Math, 36 on ACT Math, and 170 on GRE Math.
